The Consumer Council will continue to carry out pre-Diwali inspections in partnership with the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission in the lead up to the festivity.

Acting Chief Executive, Seymour Singh says if they find out that traders and businesses are not complying with proper ethical practices – they will be taken to task.

Singh says it’s also important for consumers to properly check the items before purchase.

“As far as customers are concerned, we will ask them to shop around and make sure you shop, you have a list, and also compare prices. Don’t make wrong choices and check for expiry dates if you’re buying food items because we’ve found that some traders are selling expired food items.”

Meanwhile, the Council together with FCCC carried out the first round of inspections last Friday where they found traders selling expired products, putting up misleading advertisements and selling items of poor quality.
