January 24, 2019 4:44 pm

The Parliament secretariat is working to develop a new communication strategy.

The strategy will also integrate a social media component to improve their public profile.

Acting Secretary General to Parliament Viniana Namosimalua says they want more Fijians to be interested in how Parliament works, as well as increase public participation when Bills are before the respective committees.

“We’re going to use the media a lot in terms of you know we have our Facebook page and Twitter and YouTube to sort of maximize that so that people are aware and also sending out briefings through the machinery, the existing government machinery that is there, the provincial officers to use them in terms of you know Parliament is coming and organize people to come and hear them out because it’s useful to them.”

Namosimalua adds that now with a free to air designated Parliament TV channel, work is also in the pipeline to be able to broadcast committee proceedings.

The delayed coverage of committee submissions is expected to be on television screens later this year.
