Celebrating a Queens birthday and the Fiji UK relationship

The British High Commission will this evening celebrate the 93rd birthday of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

With final preparations been made, the evening’s formalities included a run through of the ceremony which includes a fusion of local and Scottish bagpipes on display.

British High Commissioner to Fiji, Melanie Hopkins says the celebrations mark not only the rich history of Fiji and Britain, but it is also being held in conjunction with the First Battalion of the Royal Scots Guard.

“And it will bring together so many things that are special about the UK – Fiji relationship so it’ll bring together our military links including through the contribution made by so many Fijians in the British Army, it will bring together our special royal links highlighted most recently by the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Fiji last year and it will also bring together our rugby links.”

Meanwhile, the UK has continued to increase its reach in the Pacific with three more diplomatic missions to be established bringing its network to six in total.

Climate change is also key area of focus with the UK supporting the establishment of a regional National Determined Contributions hub as part of their more than $170 million spend in the Pacific on International Climate Finance.
