November 16, 2019 7:03 am

Agriculture Research Stations throughout the country are earmarked for a shift in operational focus.

Speaking during a consultative tour at the Mua Agriculture Research Station in Taveuni, Minister for Agriculture Dr. Mahendra Reddy says each individual station will focus their research on specific commodities.

Dr. Reddy stated that the rebranding and repurposing of activities conducted by the research stations will be made as soon as stations are dedicated to specific commodities.

At present, there are close to a dozen Research Stations nationwide.

Dr. Reddy says this is all part of setting out a new strategic direction for the Ministry and the sector as a whole as Research Stations play a critical role in knowledge management.

The reprioritization of research activities by respective stations will be finalized soon.

Last month, Dr. Reddy had indicated in Savusavu that the Wainigata Research Station will soon be the center for coconut research.
