1,530 complaints remain unresolved before LPU

There are currently 1,530 unresolved complaints before Fiji’s Legal Practitioners Unit, with some dating back to 2009.

The figures were revealed by Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga in response to a written question from Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu.

The backlog peaked in 2025, with 132 unresolved complaints, followed by 120 in 2023 and 116 in 2019.

The figures show complaints have remained unresolved for years, including two from 2009, 14 from 2010 and 16 from 2011.

Meanwhile, the Independent Legal Services Commission had nine pending disciplinary cases as of June this year.

Five involve alleged professional misconduct, while four relate to unsatisfactory professional conduct.

One case is awaiting judgment after hearings were completed.
