January 29, 2019 1:34 pm

The Construction Industry Council will focus on ensuring that all construction companies comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Council President Gordon Jenkins says they will work with relevant stakeholders to raise awareness for all the construction companies that are members of the Council to understand the Act and importantly to be compliant.

Jenkins says it’s sad to note that some construction companies are not aware of the act and are non-compliant, risking the lives of their workers.

“You see some people wearing these, but there are a number of occasions where helmets and shoes and goggles and all sorts of other requirements are being complied with and therefore it needs to be enforced.”

Jenkins says OHS officers also have to look into this to avoid workplace accidents.

He adds the non-compliance of some construction companies is a concern which they are working to address.
