Water volume passes alert level at Rakiraki

Water levels at the recorded in Rakiraki have surpassed the alert level, prompting a flood alert for low lying areas adjacent to Rakiraki Town.

A statement from the weather office in the last few minutes says a flood alert remains in force for low lying areas and small streams adjacent to major rivers for the whole of Fiji.

There’s also a heavy rain warning for the whole of Fiji.

Tropical Disturbance 04F has moved closer to the group and is expected to gradually deepen and move southeast towards the group from later today.

Should the depression develop into a cyclone, it’s expected to be a category 1 which could see damaging winds up 153 km/hr.

Currently, a strong wind warning remains in force for all land areas of Fiji.
