Nadi and Navua expecting developments: Kumar

Preparations are underway to declare the Jet Set town a City by the fourth quarter of next year.

During a consultative forum for municipal councils in Nadi last year, Local Government Minister Parveen Bala Kumar had announced that Nadi is expected to be declared a city.

Once declared it will become Fiji’s third City.

Minister Kumar says work is also underway to declare Navua a town.

He adds that due to lack of infrastructure they had to postpone plans to declare a town.

“I have asked Fiji Roads Authority to upgrade the roads, footpaths and streetlight. Once it is completed than and only we will declare Navua a town”

Road upgrade works has started in Navua which is expected to be completed by the end of this month

Damaged culverts are being replaced, footpaths levelled out, and street lights are expected to be installed where necessary.
