Fiji finalizes sale of military vehicles from Australia

March 7, 2017 1:05 am

Minister for National Security and Defence, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and his Australian counterpart Marise Payne formalised the sale of nine Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles to support Fiji’s United Nations peacekeeping missions.

Kubuabola says the Bushmaster PMV vehicles acquisition is an initiative under the Defence Cooperation Programme under which shared experience of owning and operating the vehicles will enhance commitments.

Kubuabola says Fijians in peacekeeping missions are exposed to danger, violence and conflict therefore their safety, security and protection is a priority.

The procurement of Bushmaster PMVs will also contribute to humanitarian emergencies to ensure that responses during natural disasters are strengthened.

Australia will transport seven vehicles to the Golan Heights and three vehicles to Fiji.
