Two service stations face probe over fuel hoarding claims

April 2, 2026 3:04 pm

Investigation into fuel and LPG compliance checks has been carried out by the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission following inspections at service stations across the country.

The Commission says its enforcement officers were deployed on the last night of March to conduct fuel and LPG surveys and inspections across all major divisions.

A total of 33 service stations were inspected during the operation.

FCCC says two service stations have been issued warnings and are now under investigation for alleged hoarding under Section 87G of the FCCC Act 2010, with prosecution being considered.

The inspections focused on verifying fuel and LPG stock levels, as well as ensuring service stations were complying with regulated prices and not charging above approved rates.

The Commission is reminding all traders that fuel hoarding and overcharging of regulated products will be met with strict enforcement action.

It says ongoing monitoring will continue through regular surveys and inspections to protect consumers and maintain confidence in the market.

Members of the public are being urged to report any suspected hoarding or overcharging.
