The National Fire Authority is urging motorists, especially Public Service Vehicle drivers, to exercise caution on the roads following a serious accident at Denarau Bridge in Nadi yesterday morning.

NFA Chief Executive Puamau Sowane made the call after a 60-seater Classic Bus, transporting hotel staff, veered off the bridge and overturned into a creek.

The incident occurred around 7:51am, prompting an immediate response from the Nadi Fire Station with two fire trucks and 11 firefighters.

Upon arrival, firefighters found seven passengers being assisted by members of the public.

Three were treated with neck braces and spinal boards and transported to Nadi Hospital via passing vehicles while four others were also taken to hospital.

The bus driver was not located at the scene, and the total number of passengers remains unknown. After conducting final checks, firefighters handed over the scene to Police.

Sowane emphasised the importance of adhering to road rules, especially with increased travel expected during the festive season.

The national road death toll currently stands at 59, compared to 44 at the same time last year.
