Fuel prices increase

Brace yourself for one of the biggest fuel hike as fuel prices go up from today.

In the Attorney General’s office this afternoon, it was announced that the price of fuel will increase based on the increase in fuel price in the global market.

The price of motor spirit will increase by 13 cents meaning from $2.48 it will be $2.61 per litre.

The new price for Outboard Premix will be $2.53 per litre with an increase of 13 cents per litre.

Diesel will go up by 6 cents per litre and the current price of $2.25 will increase to $2.31 per litre.

The lowest increase is on Kerosene which is 2 cents and the new price of it will be $1.86.

Minister for Trade and Commerce, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum announced the increase with the Commerce Commission Chair, Mahendra Reddy who were accompanied by the representatives of oil companies and the Fuel Retailers Association.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the increase is beyond our control as Fiji is price takers when it comes to fuel however he has encouraged people to cut down on unnecessary usage of energy.
