Grace Road Group head Daniel Kim says their decision to open True Fitness gyms across the country is in direct response to the growing non-communicable disease crisis – a serious health issue facing Fiji.

While speaking at the opening of the True Fitness gym in Navua this morning, he said the country’s NCD crisis is one of the most serious in the world.

“Today, over 80 percent of all deaths in Fiji are caused by NCDs such as heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension. Even more concerning, nearly every adult—over 95 percent of the population—has at least one major risk factor, whether it be physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, or obesity. This is no longer just a health issue—it is a national challenge that affects families, communities, and the future of Fiji. More and more young people are being impacted, and the need for prevention, education, and healthier lifestyles has never been more urgent.”

Kim said to truly address the NCD crisis, we must first understand its root causes— and one of the most powerful solutions is maintaining fitness.

He said fitness is not simply about appearance or physical beauty.It is the state where the body is strong, functional, and full of energy.

Kim said without resistance and weight training, people cannot achieve this.

Fitness is built through discipline, sustained by consistency and determination and this is achieved through a balance of healthy food, consistent exercise, and proper rest.

Kim said through the right harmony of the three elements, our bodies are able to maintain true health and this is the one of the core visions of the Grace Road Group.

The 4000 square metre True Fitness Navua gym is the biggest in Fiji.

GRG has three gyms in the country, the other two are located in Vitogo and Yadua.
