Registrations for the men and youth division of the 47th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s has been closed with less than a month remaining from kick-off.
Marist Rugby club president Lawrence Tikaram confirms 40 men’s and 18 youth teams have registered for the tournament.
For the women, only two teams remain to make up the targeted 12.
Tikaram says they have more team keen to join the tournament but they can only accommodate the numbers anticipated.
“Unfortunately we have oversold the men’s main cup competition for the 47th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s, including the Under-18 to 21 competition. In fact we have more than about 10 teams on standby and close to 12 teams on standby for the main cup competition.”
Tikaram adds a New Caledonia 7s team is the only overseas based team keen to join the tournament and they are liaising with Frank Boivert who is their point of contact.
The prize money details will be released next week.
The tournament will run from the 16th to the 18th of next month at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
