Queen Victoria School’s Kula Dance triumph has highlighted how students with no previous dance experience discovered their talent through rehearsals.
The QVS boys were initially hesitant about competing, with some unsure whether they had what it took to take the stage.
But Dance Coach Tevita Tobeyaweni says the students continued turning up for rehearsals, where their potential quickly became evident.
Tobeyaweni says the team also faced challenges along the way, but strong support from parents and QVS old scholars helped build the students’ confidence.
The school eventually claimed the top prize at the Vodafone Arena yesterday, with Xavier College finishing first runner-up and Swami Vivekananda College second runner-up.
Tobeyaweni says the achievement is even more significant given that most of the boys had no previous dance or sporting experience.
The Kula Awards continue today with the Film Award at the Japanese ICT Centre at the University of the South Pacific’s Laucala Campus.
