The waiting ends for Lelean Memorial School captain Luke Daunitutu, with months of preparation set to explode into 60 minutes of high-intensity rugby against Suva Grammar School in the Vodafone Super Deans Under-18 final.
Daunitutu, who hails from Naila in Bau, Tailevu, will wear the number eight jersey and will be at the heart of Lelean’s forward battle as the two schools collide for the title.
He says the preparation has remained much the same throughout the week, but the Lelean pack knows it cannot afford to switch off against a Grammar side capable of changing its forward formation and testing them in different ways.
That means discipline, communication and adaptability will be crucial once the first whistle blows.
For Daunitutu, though, the challenge goes beyond winning the physical battle.
He says every player has a name to build and a future to chase, with the team determined to make the most of the opportunity in front of them.
“We just want to put everything we have on the ground.”
The captain says they are proudly carrying the names of their families and their school, while also giving thanks to God for bringing them to this moment.
And as the young gentlemen prepare to step onto the biggest schoolboy rugby stage in Fiji, Daunitutu has not forgotten those who have carried them along the way.
He has acknowledged the Lelean old scholars for their strong support throughout the campaign and is expecting the Davuilevu Warriors faithful to bring plenty of noise to the final.
Now, with the crowd ready to roar and the forward packs preparing for a bruising battle, Daunitutu wants his side to leave every ounce of effort on the field.
The two sides will meet at 5pm and you can catch the LIVE action on FBC Sports.
