The Government is expanding Immigration services beyond Fiji’s main urban centres, with new offices set to open in Nakasi and Rakiraki next month.

Immigration Minister Viliame Naupoto says the move is aimed at bringing essential services closer to people in rural and surrounding communities.

He says people from Wainibuka, Ra and nearby areas currently have to travel to Suva or Lautoka to access immigration services, including passport and citizenship services.

The Nakasi office has completed its fit-out and was handed over to the Ministry this month, while the Rakiraki office is in its final stages of completion.

“Initially, the plan was to have both offices operational by the 31st of this month. However, due to unforeseen circumstances relating to infrastructure, procurement and other operational requirements, the Ministry is now working towards having both offices operational by September 2026. Nakasi is expected to open in early September, while Rakiraki is expected to open in late September.”

He says the Government is also extending immigration services to Rotuma, with officials scheduled to travel there from August 24 to September 13 alongside other Government agencies.

Naupoto says the expansion is part of the Government’s plan to make services more accessible and reduce the need for people in rural and maritime communities to travel long distances to access Immigration services.

The Ministry currently operates Immigration offices in Suva, Nadi and Lautoka.
