The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources is strengthening oversight of Fiji’s mining sector while supporting investments that improve mineral recovery and reduce waste.
As part of this work, Ministry officials visited Vatukoula Gold Mines to inspect its newly commissioned Fulin Carbon-in-Pulp Plant.
The new facility is expected to improve gold recovery and operational efficiency by processing up to 1,500 tonnes of historical tailings each day.
The Ministry says the plant uses Carbon-in-Pulp technology to recover gold that remains in previously deposited mine waste, allowing valuable minerals to be extracted from
material once considered waste.
Officials were briefed on the plant’s operations, including milling, leaching, carbon adsorption, carbon regeneration and tailings management.
The delegation also visited Tailings Storage Facility 6 to observe ongoing tailings uplift works and assess the mine’s environmental and operational management practices.
The Ministry says the visit forms part of its ongoing efforts to support responsible mineral development and the sustainable management of Fiji’s mineral resources.
