A hearing date has been set for New Zealand lawyer Rajendra Chaudhary who has appealed against his sentence.

Chaudhry was found guilty of contempt of court in April.

He was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment and also ordered to pay a fine of $50, 000 by the Civil High Court in Suva for making comments against the judiciary on social media.

However, the amount was reduced to $5000 which has been cleared off.

The matter was called in the High court this morning to set the appeal’s hearing date.

In May this year, Chaudhry was convicted for making defamatory comments on Facebook against the former Chief Justice Anthony Gates, Judge Justice Yohan Liyanage, and the Fijian Judiciary as a whole.

The appeal’s case will be heard on October 30th.
