Child abuse and neglect remain serious concerns. This urgency led the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection and Save the Children Fiji to carry out targeted outreach in Qauia, Lami and Filafou last Saturday.
The Ministry stated the sessions focused on child safety. Teams from the Department of Children and the Department of Women worked with children to strengthen their understanding of their rights, safe behavior and support systems.
The Ministry said the program was important because children must help shape the decisions that affect them.
It adds that every child needs to be heard, protected and empowered as Fiji works to improve its child protection systems.
The outreach also supports preparations for the upcoming national symposium marking the International Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, World Children’s Day and events ahead of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
