The Registrar of Political Parties yesterday received an application for registration from the proposed One United Republican Party.
Registrar Ana Mataiciwa confirms that the FEO is preparing to publish the proposed party’s application in a newspaper and in the Gazette, as required under the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act 2013 (Act).
“Following publication, any person may submit a written objection to the FEO regarding the proposed party’s application for registration during the objections period. We will forward all objections within seven days of receipt, to the proposed party to respond, and afterwards assess all responses and inform both the objectors and the proposed party of the decision.”
Mataiciwa says the proposed OUR party will be advised on whether its application for registration has been approved or rejected, after the completion of this process.
She says the decision will be made after a thorough compliance check with all requirements set out in the Act.
She stresses the importance of transparency and public participation in the political party registration process.
Mataiciwa says it ensures that all proposed parties meet the legal requirements and that the public has the opportunity to engage meaningfully.
