The Land Transport Authority has presented a traditional protocol called kida at the Karavi Weighbridge Site in Ba last Friday.
LTA Acting Chief Executive, Irimaia Rokosawa, says this is a landmark achievement as it will safeguard their officers who will be occupying and operating the weighbridge at the site.
He adds the blessings and support of the Vanua Tukani of the Tui Ba serve as an assurance that LTA will fulfil its responsibilities at the Karavi site.
Rokosawa says the implementation of the weighbridge system is a crucial step towards addressing overloading issues and exploring ways to encourage truck companies to distribute their vehicle loads more effectively.
The LTA has taken significant steps to enforce weight regulations, operating round-the-clock stations in Lami and Lautoka.
Additionally, a weighbridge is also situated at the LTA headquarters in Valelevu, and three portable weighbridges are available across Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
Rokosawa says vehicles found to be overweight face fines, temporary suspension, and are required to reduce their load to meet legal limits before proceeding.
The commissioning of the Karavi Weighbridge Site is scheduled to take place in the coming months.
