The Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption spent approximately $19,022 on the investigation and prosecution of former Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde.
The figure was revealed in Parliament in response to written question by Opposition leader Inia Seruiratu to the Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga.
According to the response, around $11,000 of the expenditure was attributed to FICAC’s internal investigation and legal costs, including staff time.
A further $8,022 was spent in New Zealand on the service of court documents and related legal processes.
The response states that the charges against Pryde involved an alleged total of $193,326.64.
These included alleged gratuity payments, alleged reimbursement monies received contrary to applicable procurement requirements, and alleged airline reimbursement payments.
FICAC says its estimated expenditure of $19,022 should be considered in the context of the nature and financial value of the matters that were the subject of the proceedings.
