160 FICAC matters remain before the courts

A total of 160 Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption matters remained before the courts as at June 30, this year, including 141 at the prosecution stage and 19 on appeal.

The figures were revealed in Parliament by the Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga in response to a written question from Opposition MP Jone Usamate.

FICAC reported that the 141 prosecution matters and 19 appeal cases are separately recorded, bringing the total number of live court matters to 160.

The Commission also had 182 active investigation files as at June 30.

Of these, 125 were in Suva, 29 in Lautoka and 28 in Labasa.

FICAC dealt with 508 investigation files across its three offices during the reporting period from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

The Commission received 407 complaints during the same period.

Despite the volume of cases handled, FICAC recorded 18 successful convictions over the 12-month reporting period.

The parliamentary response also highlights the number of cases that remained active at the end of the reporting period, with 182 investigation files still under consideration and 160 matters remaining before the courts.
