Male breast cancer is aggressive when compared to female breast cancer.

Colonial War Memorial Hospital General Surgeon Dr. Ilaitia Delasau says Gynocomastia is not cancerous however it could build up a lump in the breast which could be cancerous.

Gynocomastia is an increase in the amount of breast gland tissue in boys or men, caused by an imbalance of the hormones.

“Again males in general, we are known to be late presenters, we sort of ignore things, and we put things off. So again the reason of the delay presentation is that a lot of time it’s just being ignored. Gynocomastia is the condition that affects male and that could be caused by drugs, could be caused by smoking marijuana and other medications can cause that, but sometimes within that Gynocomastia, there could be a lump. So before diagnosing yourself, before being told that you got Gynocomastia, it’s important to get it checked!”

Dr. Delasau says early screening can help deal with cancer as triple assessments will be done which includes clinical, radiological and pathological assessments.

The Health Ministry has recorded three male breast cancers so far this year.
