Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has ordered an internal investigation into officers based at the Nausori Police Station following allegations of assault circulating on social media.
Commissioner Tudravu has directed the Internal Affairs Department to investigate the claims, describing the allegations as extremely concerning.
He says the investigation will examine all accusations regarding the conduct of the officers involved.
The Police Commissioner has reiterated the organisation’s zero tolerance for officers who abuse their authority.
He adds that internal disciplinary processes will begin as soon as the officers are identified.
Commissioner Tudravu says such allegations are damaging to ongoing efforts to rebuild public trust and confidence in policing.
He has assured members of the public that the matter will be treated as a top priority.
