The three assessors in the rape trial of former Fiji 7s player Amenoni Nasilasila have retired behind closed doors to deliberate on their opinions at the Lautoka High Court.

26-year-old Nasilasila is alleged to have raped a 24-year-old woman in Olosara, Sigatoka on December 22nd last year.

During his summing up, Judge Justice Daniel Goundar told the assessors that they are free to form their opinions.

Justice Goundar says that the burden of proof lies with the prosecution at all times.

He also told the assessors not to assume the accused is guilty just because he did not give evidence as this was his right.
