June 16, 2023 6:24 am

Members of the Nasavu Youth Club in the District of Nadi, Bua, are harvesting sugarcane to assist in the purchase of a four-tonne truck that will ease their transportation problem.

Village Headman Maciu Votutawa says this is the fourth consecutive year that the club has been harvesting sugarcane to assist the developments in their village.

“What we earn from harvesting sugarcane is forwarded to our youth club and the village. It assists in the developments for the village; these include the upgrade of footpaths and crossings, as well as the purchase of trucks to help ease the problem of transportation in the village.”

Votutawa says they aim to collect $5,000 from harvest this year to contribute to the $18,000 deposit for a truck. The truck is valued at around $80,000.

In 2017, the club collected $7,000 from harvesting, which assisted them in purchasing a three-tonne truck.
