Pass on benefits warn Consumer Council

June 15, 2023 3:17 pm

The Consumer Council of Fiji is urging retailers to ensure they pass on the recent reduction in flour prices to consumers.

Earlier this week, the Fijian Competition and Competition Commission announced a six percent decrease in the price of flour, and the consumer watchdog says businesses need to demonstrate their commitment to consumer welfare.

Chief Executive Sheema Shandil claims businesses have often been swift to pass on price increases to their consumers but have been slow or reluctant to pass on price reductions if they pass them on at all.

Shandil says the Council will actively monitor businesses’ compliance through trader visits and market surveillance to ensure that the benefits of this price reduction reach consumers.
