TISI Sangam celebrates 100 years of legacy

A century of resilience, culture, and unity came alive in Nadi today as the TISI Sangam officially launched its 100th centennial celebrations, marking a historic milestone that has shaped generations and made a significant contribution to Fiji’s social and economic development.

Thousands of people from across Fiji and overseas gathered at King Charles Park to take part in the festivities, which will feature sports, entertainment, and cultural activities designed to honour the organisation’s history while highlighting its vision for the future.

The event also placed the Sangam’s strong legacy in the spotlight, highlighting the enduring connection of the global Sangam diaspora, who, despite living far from Fiji, remain deeply engaged with the organisation.

Over the past 100 years, TISI Sangam has played a vital role in national development, supporting education, community projects, arts, culture, and the preservation of languages.

Through its sacrifices, dedication, and commitment to community service, the organisation has shown that national resilience is built not by institutions alone but by people who step up to strengthen their communities through meaningful action.

Speaking at the opening, TISI Sangam National President Parveen Bala reminded the Sangam diaspora of the importance of continuing everyday acts of care, responsibility, and shared duty, reflecting the lasting impact the organisation has achieved over the century.

“This centennial year has been marked by a series of deeply meaningful and historic events across Fiji. Among the most significant has been the establishment of a replica temple at the original site of the Nadi Siva Subramaniam Temple where Sangam was founded on the 24th May 1926.”

Young people at the celebration were encouraged to carry the Sangam’s legacy forward with pride, building on a tradition that continues to unite communities and foster collective growth.

The centennial celebrations will conclude on Monday, following four days of events and activities that honour the organisation’s remarkable 100-year journey.ual awareness, cultural preservation, and social service, calling the convention a milestone in Fiji’s Indo-Fijian community.
