Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, during his visit to Brisbane, Australia over the weekend, was warmly acknowledged by Girmit descendants for his recognition of the Girmityas and their invaluable contributions to national development.
At a gathering with the Fijian diaspora, the Prime Minister received heartfelt expressions of gratitude from the Girmit descendants for introducing Girmit Day, which celebrates their legacy.
The diaspora also extended their appreciation for the Prime Minister’s public apology regarding the events of 1987.
Rabuka, in turn, reaffirmed his commitment to serving the nation and fostering unity among its citizens.
