Government focuses on assisting the disadvantage

July 4, 2016 4:41 am

Government will continue to focus on the needs of women and children, senior citizens and the disadvantaged people in Fiji.

Social Welfare Minister Rosy Akbar highlighted this in Parliament today as she rose in support for the 2016-2017 National Budget.

With the allocation of $56.1 million, Akbar says the Fijian government promotes social safety and also advocates self reliance.

“To achieve this objective the Fijian government will continue to support existing Social Protection Programs which we have such as the poverty benefit scheme, the child protection programme, the Social Pension Scheme and the food voucher programme.”

One of the schemes that the Ministry will look into is the monthly food voucher programme as it will be re-configured so that the scheme is given to those who truly deserve it.
