US President Donald Trump has been removed from a press conference by Secret Service agents after reports of shots fired outside the White House.
CBS correspondent Skyler Henry says a gunshot was heard just outside, and the Secret Service is now clearing journalists off the White House lawn.
“Law enforcement holding guns everywhere,” she wrote.
In footage from his press conference, the President can be seen being abruptly whisked away mid-sentence by agents, one of whom can be heard saying “shots fired outside”.
Fox News reports that a shooting took place at the corner of 17th Street NW and Pennsylvania Street NW, just outside the White House’s front gate.

Trump has since returned to the conference, telling reporters it appears “there was a shooting outside the White House” that now “seems very much under control”.
The President said a person has been taken to the hospital after being shot by the Secret Service.
