A person with a BB gun put multiple New Zealand’s West Auckland schools in lockdown this afternoon.

Police were alerted to an incident in Avondale at around 1.40pm after it was believed that a person in the area had a firearm.

Surrounding schools were put into lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Police says they have since established that a person had a BB gun and they are now assisting with the enquiries.

The schools are no longer in lockdown.
