Hawke's Bay Hospital in Hastings

Hawke’s Bay Hospital in Hastings has been placed into lockdown after an unspecified threat was called in at 3pm.

A police spokeswoman said officers were working to ascertain exactly what was going on but in the meantime, no one would be able to enter or exit the hospital.

Police would not elaborate on the nature of the threat or whether it was associated with the Christchurch mosque shootings.

A spokeswoman for Hawke’s Bay District Health Board said anyone requiring urgent medical attention should call 111.

Those with less urgent matters were asked to visit their nearest medical centre.

She understood the lockdown meant everyone was to stay put inside the hospital, despite several social media posts suggesting some people had been evacuated.
