Zaid double seals IDC win for Ba

Striker,Abbu Zaid scored two goals to help the Ba football side beat Nadi 2-0 in the final of the Courts Inter District Championship at Govind Park.

The fleet-footed striker scored a goal in each half to the delight of the home fans.

The nippy forward opened the account for the Men In Black in the 21st minute of the first spell after a fumble by Nadi goal keeper Dereti Dickson who spilled a beautifully timed cross from Ronil Kumar.

Zaid, who had not performed up to expectations in the tournament was a changed player in the final who scored his second goal in the 3rd minute of the second spell after executing a perfect one-two move with captain Avinesh Swamy.

Zaid says he had a point to prove after recovering from a niggling leg injury.

Ba coach, Imdad Ali says defense proved to be a key factor in their success as the Men in Black conceded only one goal throughout the tournament.

“I worked for it and my boys worked for it. I thank God for it and I thank all the families and the supporters who came to watch the game; I think they got their money’s worth.”

Ba defeated Suva 1-0 in the semifinal while Nadi beat Labasa by the same score line.

Ba Football President, Rishi Kumar says a grand celebration will be held in honor of the team’s achievement.

Meanwhile in other final results, Navua beat Rakiraki 1-0 in the Senior Division, Kamil Muslim College defeated Saraswati College 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out in the Secondary School Division and Labasa edged Ba 1-0 in the Primary School Division.
