Young sailors ready for championship

Two days remain before the 2012 Vodafone Oceania Youth Hobie Championship begins at Suva Point.

Fiji Hobie Sailing president, Graham Southwick says before the young Pacific Island competitors hit the water, two days of blackboard sessions is required.

“Few rules of the rope is collision avoidance those sorts of things, these are relatively young people and learning the rules of the games and sailing techniques and racing tactics and just tuning up the boats and getting ready for the main event.”

Sailors from New Caledonia, Wallis & Futuna are already in Fiji with the championship to run over three days, starting on Wednesday.

Fiji’s Kaveni Nadrai won last year’s event.
