World Rugby announces new selection formula for WRPC

The World Rugby Union has finally made the announcement of the new selection formula of teams to be part of the World Rugby Pacific Challenge which kicks off next month.

After FBC Sports broke the news on Monday, World Rugby Tournament Director Michael Groom has publicly confirmed four teams will compete in the Under-23 category which includes Junior Japan, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa.

Groom says the Union is trying to focus on developing rugby in the region and be competitive against the Tier One nations.

“We’re trying them to young players to make hot performance and to showcase their talent to hope and look for direction or pathway into the national team.”

The tournament will be held on the 9th, 13th and 17th of next month at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
