Fiji women’s rugby has finally grabbed a spot in the inaugural IRB Women’s Sevens World Series, which kicked off in Dubai at the end of November.

The International Rugby Board has announced the invited teams will have the opportunity to play against six core teams in tournaments planned for USA, China and the Netherlands.

Fiji has been invited to the China leg in Guangzhou next March – this is an initiative to prepare teams for the Rugby Sevens World Cup in Moscow 2013 and the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.

Fiji Women’s Rugby Union secretary Akisi Naiveli says their inclusion is great news.

“We feel elated, excited and very honored to participating in China and it’s one of the many things that we’re looking forward to apart from Moscow 2013. Apart from that,, not being invited to Dubai on the first round, its water under the bridge as we’re looking forward to China now.”

The 12-team tournaments already include Australia, Canada, England, Netherlands, New Zealand and USA.
