Winning start for Iran and Uruguay in FIFA World Cup

Iran football side won their first match at a World Cup since 1998 as they defeated Morocco 1-nil this morning.

Morocco substitute Aziz Bouhaddouz scored an own goal in injury time.

Iran will take on Spain at 6am on Thursday while in a match earlier at 12am Portugal plays Morocco.

In the other match, Uruguay snatched a late winner as they began their World Cup campaign with a dramatic 1-nil win over Egypt, who left Mohamed Salah on the bench.

Jose Gimenez headed powerfully into the net in the 90th minute as he gave the South Americans a winning start in Russia.

Uruguay plays Saudi Arabia in its second pool match on Thursday at 3am while Egypt faces Russia a day earlier at 6am.
