Wini signs deal with Stade Francais

Vodafone Fiji 7s rep, Josaia Wini has secured a contract with France Top 14 rugby champions, Stade Francais.

The 21 year old forward, who made his international debut in the Hong Kong 7s will join former 7s reps and siblings, Waisea Nayacalevu and Avenisi Vasuinubu at the club.

Fiji coach, Ben Ryan says Wini’s departure will be a huge loss for the team as the youngster was the likely candidate to take over from star forward, Semi Kunatani, who has joined another French club, Toulouse.

“I wanted him to stay for another 12 months; he’s only just broken into the side, he’s not in the starting team. It would have been great to develop him here and do what Semi did and have another year here and go on a really good contract. I know that finance is attached to all of this; he is a good kid and I wish him all the best.”

The Fiji 7s side is currently undergoing a one-week camp in Deuba to prepare for the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.

Ryan will announce his final 12-member squad on Friday and the team will depart for PNG on Tuesday.
