The organizers of the West 7’s rugby tournament want to set a new platform for players wanting to don the national jumper for the Rio Olympics.

Organized by West Events, the tournament hopes to develop rugby sevens in a professional manner, staging a series of tournaments under the West Sevens banner.

Tournament Coordinator, Biu Tadranu says they are confident of achieving more than just that.

“This is year is the Olympics and we need to move into that direction of transforming the game of 7s in Fiji, professionally not only inside the field but outside the field in terms of managing the rugby 7s club in Fiji.”

He adds they are hoping for more overseas teams to come over as Spain is the first international team to confirm its participation.

A total of 45 teams have confirmed their participation for the first leg of the West 7s series, which will be held next weekend at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
