Weightlifting Fiji is sending one of its lifters to compete in the Independence Day Championship in Nauru next week.

Timothy Vakuruivalu, son of Della Shaw and Henry Elder will be representing Fiji in the competition.

Vakuruivalu says he understands the responsibility and the pressure going into such tournament.

“There’s a lot of pressure going into this competition because I will also be going against a lot of big names in the Pacific and also in the Commonwealth. This will also set a good platform for me building up to the World Juniors that is in June and straight after that the Pacific Games that will be in Samoa.”

Fiji will be hosting the Weightlifting Junior Championship in June.
