We need to respect other teams-Ryan

December 8, 2015 3:30 am

Vodafone Fiji 7’s coach Ben Ryan is not happy with how his players reacted during the 19-5 semi-final win against New Zealand at the Dubai 7’s last weekend.

Speaking to World Rugby, Ryan says his players did not show enough respect to their opponents and this needs to be cut out if they are to be the best team of all time.

“I look at that New Zealand team of 4-5 years ago when they had had 47 game winning run. This team has the potential to do that but based on what happened in the New Zealand match that’s not going to happen if they continue to get carried away with themselves. I love a lot of our boys to death and I would do a lot for them but I think they need to have a bit of respect.”

On the field, Fiji has upped the ante, nine players crossing the line on day one of the Dubai 7’s – a record in itself.

Vatemo Ravovou converted 24 out of 26 conversions and Fiji retained most of its kick offs.

The Cape Town 7’s begins this Saturday with Fiji to play their first match against Scotland at 9.59pm.

You can watch the entire tournament live on FBC TV and catch live commentaries of Fiji’s matches on Radio Fiji One and BULA FM.
