Vodafone Flying Fijians flanker, Dominiko Waqaniburotu, has been suspended for one week after admitting an act of foul play at the World Cup.
Following a review of broadcast footage, Waqaniburotu was cited for a dangerous tip tackle on England wing, Jonny May, in the 35-11 loss.
Having conducted a detailed review of all the evidence available, the judicial officer, Professor Lorne Crerar considered that the incident was more appropriately characterized as a dangerous tackle in breach of Law 10.4(e) rather than 10.4(j), which Waqaniburotu was initially cited for.
Taking into account mitigating factors including his admission and remorse and the absence of aggravating factors, the player was suspended for a period of one week.
Waqaniburotu is suspended for Fiji’s match against Australia on Thursday and is available for Fiji’s third match against Wales.
The player has 48 hours in which to appeal from the time he was informed of the decision.
Fiji meets Australia at 3:45am on Thursday at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
You can watch all the World Cup matches live on FBC TV and radio commentaries of Fiji’s games will air on Bula FM and Radio Fiji One.
