April 18, 2015 8:43 am

Vodafone Fiji Under 20 rep, Saula Waqa scored two goals to help Ba beat AS Pirae 2-0 and qualify for the semi-finals of the Fiji Airways OFC Champions League.

Ba came into the match only needing a draw to reach the final four but the Shalen Lal-coached side put on a sublime performance in front their home fans at Govind Park to signal their intentions of a title win.

Ba broke the deadlock in the 12 minute after Avinesh Swamy headed a pass directly into the path of Waqa, who blasted the ball into the back of the net.

The hosts took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Ba came out firing in the second half as Waqa scored his second goal in the 53rd minute to send the fans into raptures.

Ba will take on Team Wellington in the semi-finals on Tuesday at the ANZ Stadium at 7pm.

Ba’s victory means two teams from Fiji will qualify for the 2016 OFC Champions League.

Defending champions, Auckland City will meet Gaitcha in the first semi-final on the same day and venue at 3:30pm; the latter qualifying after having racked up a better points differential by thrashing Lupe Ole Soaga 8-1.

Meanwhile Vodafone Suva recorded its first win in the league beating Western United 3-1 at the ANZ Stadium.

Auckland City defeated last year’s finalist, Amicale 3-0 to remain unbeaten in the competition.

The final of the Fiji Airways OFC Champions League will be held at the ANZ Stadium next Sunday at 7pm.
