Wainiqolo to lead Fiji's Gold Coast campaign

September 16, 2012 7:02 pm

Timoci Wainiqolo is most likely to be the man who will be given the charge of taking the Fiji sevens team to the first leg of the World Sevens series in Gold Coast Australia.

With coach Alifereti Dere still not allowed into Australia under the current sanctions against military personnel and Etuate Waqa in Tonga now to coach the Tonga sevens team, the prison officer will take the team as assistant coach to Gold Coast and Wellington.

It is believed that Wainiqolo was approached last week by Fiji Rugby Union and the appointment will be finalized today.

Wainiqolo is no stranger to sevens as he himself was a player and assisted the late Kitione Vesikula.

Meanwhile the Fiji Sevens team moves into camp again on Tuesday.
