Vodafone Flying Fijians winger Watisoni Votu scored two tries to help the national side defeat the USA Eagles 20-14 in France this morning.
Fullback Timoci Nagusa scored the opening try in the first spell before setting up Votu to scored another five-pointer with Nemani Nadolo adding the conversion.
Nadolo successfully kicked a penalty for a 15-0 lead.
Fiji went into halftime with a man short after hooker Tuapati Talemaitoga was sin-binned for an infringement in the line-out.
USA came back stronger in the second spell and pressured the Fijians into committing simple errors.
The Eagles took advantage of their numerical advantage, with winger Seamus Kelly scoring a try in the 42nd minute.
Centre Vereniki Goneva made a wonderful break down the sideline before offloading to offloading to Votu to touch down his second try in the 50th minute.
Nadolo missed the conversion.
USA struck back with a sizzling try to speedster Taku Ngwenya, beating the covering defense of his opposite number Asaeli Tikoirotuma and Nagusa for a 20-14 score line.
The Eagles’ confidence soared as they mounted a determined fightback but the Fijian’s defense was able to hold strong until the final whistle.
