28-year-old Fijian athlete Eugene Vollmer says he will exhaust all avenues of support and will leave no stone unturned as he tries to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

Volmer is one of the four athletes selected by FASANOC and awarded the IOC Tokyo 2020 Olympic scholarship for preparation towards the next Olympic Games in Japan.

Vollmer says the scholarship enables him to have access to quality training that a lot of the World class athletes have.

“Honestly I feel like I don’t deserve it but apparently, the officials at FASANOC and athletics Fiji feel that I’d be able to qualify for Olympics and that has given me much more motivation. If they believe in me then, of course, that will drive me through all the way.”

Volmer joins Sally Yee from Table tennis, Fiji Swimming’s top contender Matelita Buadromo and Robert Elder for Archery have been selected and awarded financial scholarships meaning they receive month allowance for preparations until the 2020 Olympics.

The 2020 summer Olympics will be held from the 24th of July to the 9th of August.
