The 2016 Vodafone Premier League was launched last night at the Fiji Football Association Headquarters in Suva.
League Board Chairman Yogeshwar Singh says the competition, which is now into its 39th year of existence, has come a long way since it first started.
“Since it’s inauguration with our first sponsors Air New Zealand in 1977, the National football League has grown bigger and better over the years. This year as you all know, we have a new sponsor and that is Vodafone Fiji who has taken the additional burden of the sponsorship.”
Vodafone Fiji gave $160,000 for the tournament with the winning team to walk away with $18,000.
The league begins this weekend with Labasa to host Dreketi at Subrail Park at 1.30pm tomorrow while Ba takes on Lautoka at Govind Park at 3pm.
On Sunday, Rewa plays Suva at 3pm at Nausori’s Ratu Cakobau Park while Nadi takes on Nadroga at the same time at Prince Charles Park.
You can catch the live commentary of the Ba-Lautoka match on Radio Fiji Two with the voice of soccer, Raymond Stoddart.
